Complications of Midurethral Sling Stratified by Surgical Route: A Litigation-Derived Case Series of 252 Women.

Listen to this summary

This retrospective case series of 252 women who pursued litigation after midurethral sling placement examined whether further revision surgery is likely once a first revision has occurred. The authors found that repeat surgery was common: about half of women who had a first revision required a second, and among those who reached a second revision, 70% in the transobturator group underwent a third (an exploratory estimate based on only 36 women at risk). Because the cohort was selected on complications and litigation and no route comparisons were tested, the findings are hypothesis-generating and cannot establish population rates or route-specific differences.
