Somatostatin analogues for ADPKD: ending the confusing story of mGFR and eGFR

This commentary evaluates the findings of the Lanreotide In Polycystic kidney disease Study (LIPS), which aimed to assess the efficacy of somatostatin analogues in slowing kidney function decline in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). While Lanreotide did not show a significant effect on the primary outcome of glomerular filtration rate decline, it indicated a potential impact on creatinine-estimated glomerular filtration rate slope, raising concerns about the interpretation of kidney function metrics. Ultimately, the authors support existing guidelines that advise against using somatostatin analogues solely for kidney function preservation in ADPKD.
