Recurrence of Hypertropia in Sagging Eye Syndrome

The authors aimed to evaluate the surgical outcomes and recurrence rates of hypertropia in patients with sagging eye syndrome (SES) following strabismus surgery. Their findings revealed that while surgery initially corrected hypertropia, approximately 31% of patients experienced symptomatic recurrence after an average of two years, highlighting the progressive nature of SES. The study also noted that surgical overcorrections were rare and not significantly linked to the degree of preoperative hypertropia.
