Ruling out acute coronary syndrome in primary care: a diagnostic trial (POB-HELP)

The authors aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a clinical decision rule (CDR) that integrates high-sensitivity troponin I testing and the Marburg Heart Score to rule out acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and myocardial infarction (MI) in primary care patients presenting with chest pain. The study found that the CDR demonstrated high sensitivity and negative predictive value for ruling out ACS and MI, but referral rates did not significantly differ from usual care practices. Overall, the CDR proved to be a safe diagnostic tool for managing chest pain in primary care settings.
