Cost savings from primary care clinic continuity among patients with chronic disease in Alberta, Canada: a retrospective population-level cross-sectional study

The authors aimed to estimate the cost savings in health service utilization for patients with chronic diseases when transitioning from primary care clinics with low and moderate continuity to those with high continuity levels in Alberta, Canada. Their findings indicate that achieving high clinic continuity could potentially save upwards of £898 million over three years, particularly benefiting the most medically complex patients. This study underscores the financial advantages of prioritizing high continuity in primary care settings.
