The Longevity of Mental Health Apps: A Survival Analysis of the Largest Mental Health App Database

Listen to this summary

This study investigates the factors influencing the longevity of mental health apps, aiming to guide patients, clinicians, and developers in selecting and creating more durable applications. Analyzing data from the M-Health Index and Navigation Database, the authors found that over half of the 865 apps studied were removed within five years, with platform exclusivity being a significant predictor of attrition. The results highlight the importance of app characteristics in minimizing treatment attrition and inform the development of more stable mental health tools.
