Connecting Risk Prediction to Intervention: Evidence from a Randomized Trial Testing Patient Navigation and Education to Improve Postpartum Outcomes

The authors aimed to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of a postpartum educational and patient navigation intervention for Black individuals at high risk of postpartum hospital use, using a validated risk calculator for recruitment. While engagement with the intervention was high, preliminary results indicated no significant reduction in postpartum hospital use compared to standard care. The study highlights the challenges of real-time risk assessment and the need for further research on risk-targeted postpartum interventions.
