Trends in the incidence and outcomes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation-induced consciousness in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: a retrospective study

The authors aimed to investigate the incidence, trends, characteristics, and outcomes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation-induced consciousness (CPRIC) in patients experiencing out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Their retrospective study found that the incidence of CPRIC increased over the 16-year period, with 3.3% of OHCA patients experiencing it, and identified factors associated with CPRIC, including younger age and witnessed arrests. Importantly, CPRIC was linked to improved survival rates to hospital discharge, suggesting it may indicate favorable physiological responses in patients.
