Impact of Family History on Colorectal Cancer Risk in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and in Matched General Population Comparators

The authors aimed to investigate how family history of colorectal cancer (CRC) influences CRC incidence in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) compared to a matched general population. Their findings indicate that while family history increases CRC incidence in both groups, the effect is more pronounced in individuals with multiple affected relatives, suggesting a need to reconsider surveillance strategies for CRC in IBD patients based on family history.
