Revision and Explantation After Permanent Sacral Neuromodulation for Overactive Bladder: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

The authors aimed to estimate the rates of revision and explantation following permanent sacral neuromodulation (SNM) for overactive bladder (OAB) and to summarize the reasons for these outcomes. Their systematic review and meta-analysis of 27 studies involving 3,278 patients found that the pooled proportions for revision and explantation were 12.6% and 10.8%, respectively, with common reasons for revision including lead-related issues and loss of efficacy being the primary cause for explantation. The study highlights the need for standardized reporting to enhance patient counseling and device selection.
