Impact of pre-pregnancy body mass index in low-risk pregnancies with adequate gestational weight gain: trend and adverse outcomes

The authors aimed to investigate the temporal trends of pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and its association with adverse outcomes in low-risk pregnancies that achieved adequate gestational weight gain. They found a significant increase in the prevalence of pre-pregnancy overweight and obesity from 2016 to 2023, with higher risks of adverse outcomes, particularly primary cesarean delivery and neonatal complications, associated with pre-pregnancy obesity, especially class III obesity.
