Vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery versus conventional multiport laparoscopy for hemorrhagic ovarian cyst rupture with hemoperitoneum: a multicenter retrospective cohort study
Listen to this summary
The authors aimed to compare the perioperative outcomes, postoperative pain, recovery, and patient-reported sexual and cosmetic outcomes between vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) and conventional multiport laparoscopy (CML) in women with hemorrhagic ovarian cyst rupture and hemoperitoneum. The study found that while both surgical approaches had similar operative times and blood loss, vNOTES was associated with significantly lower pain levels at 12 hours post-surgery and better genital self-image scores, suggesting it may offer advantages over CML in this patient population. Further prospective studies are needed to validate these findings.
