Efficacy and safety of revascularization in patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia by kidney function

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to determine how kidney function affects the efficacy and safety of surgical versus endovascular revascularization in patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI). Their analysis of the BEST-CLI trial revealed that while surgical revascularization led to fewer days with major adverse limb events across all kidney function groups, its mortality benefits diminished in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease. These findings suggest the need for personalized revascularization strategies based on kidney function, although further prospective studies are necessary to confirm these results.
