HIF1A-dependent induction of alveolar miR-147b dampens SARS-CoV-2-associated ARDS via direct targeting of viral RNA
Listen to this summary
The authors investigate whether alveolar microRNAs, specifically miR-147b, play a protective role against SARS-CoV-2-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) by targeting viral RNA. They demonstrate that miR-147b is induced by hypoxia-inducible factor 1A (HIF1A) during infection and that it directly interacts with the viral ORF8 region, providing a mechanism for its protective effects in a murine model of SARS-CoV-2 ARDS. This study highlights the potential of miR-147b as an endogenous antiviral agent that mitigates lung injury during viral pneumonia.
