Oral Semaglutide for Alcohol Use Disorder: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Listen to this summary
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of oral semaglutide on alcohol craving and consumption in treatment-seeking adults with alcohol use disorder (AUD). While semaglutide did not significantly reduce laboratory-assessed craving, it was associated with a notable decrease in heavy drinking days, drinks per drinking day, and alcohol-related consequences compared to placebo. The results support further investigation into semaglutide as a potential treatment for AUD.
