Premature menopause is associated with the development of high blood pressure: a UK Biobank cohort study
Listen to this summary
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between premature (<40 years) and early menopause (40-45 years) and the onset of hypertension in postmenopausal women using data from the UK Biobank. The findings revealed that earlier menopause is associated with a higher risk of developing hypertension, with women experiencing premature menopause showing a 12.3% increased risk compared to those with normal menopause. Additionally, while surgical menopause was associated with higher hypertension incidence, it did not demonstrate an independent effect in the multivariate analysis.
