Hypo- Versus Standard Fractionated Locoregional Radiotherapy of Patients With High-Risk Breast Cancer in the Randomized Phase III Trial: The Danish Breast Cancer Group Skagen Trial 1
Listen to this summary
The Danish Breast Cancer Group Skagen Trial 1 aimed to determine whether hypofractionated radiotherapy (40Gy/15fx) for high-risk breast cancer patients resulted in more lymphedema compared to the standard fractionated regimen (50Gy/25fx) after three years, without compromising cancer control. The study found that the incidence of lymphedema was similar between the two treatment arms, and there were no significant differences in locoregional or distant recurrence rates, breast cancer mortality, or all-cause mortality. Thus, hypofractionated radiotherapy was shown to be a noninferior alternative to standard treatment in this patient population.
