Beyond the floodwaters: women's multidimensional vulnerability to flood disasters - a scoping review

This scoping review investigates the multidimensional vulnerabilities faced by women during flood disasters, aiming to synthesize existing evidence on how social, economic, cultural, and institutional factors contribute to these vulnerabilities. The authors identify five interacting domains of vulnerability—physical, social, psychological, economic, and environmental—and develop a conceptual framework to illustrate the relationship between structural conditions and women's adaptive capacities in disaster contexts. Ultimately, the study highlights the need for gender-responsive disaster risk reduction strategies that acknowledge and address these complex vulnerabilities.
