Severe anemia and red cell product ordering burden among women hospitalized with benign uterine disorders: a retrospective cohort study using MIMIC-IV

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and implications of severe anemia among women hospitalized with benign uterine disorders, specifically examining its association with red cell product ordering and ICU admissions. The authors found that severe anemia was present in nearly a quarter of the hospitalizations and was significantly linked to increased red cell product orders and longer hospital stays, highlighting its role as a marker of hospital burden in this patient population. The findings underscore the need for awareness and management of anemia in women with benign gynecological conditions to optimize healthcare resources.
