Strategies associated with high inferior vena cava filter retrieval: a positive deviance study

This study investigates the barriers to timely retrieval of inferior vena cava (IVC) filters and identifies strategies associated with high retrieval rates in hospitals. The authors found that successful retrieval was linked to effective operationalization of follow-up care rather than specific surveillance models, emphasizing the importance of non-physician champions, protocolized processes, and streamlined communication among clinicians. The findings suggest that scalable interventions should focus on accountability and risk-stratified approaches to enhance retrieval rates.
