Analysis of Lung Cancer Screening Eligibility among Patients Diagnosed with Lung Cancer: A Retrospective Cohort Study

The authors aimed to evaluate the eligibility rates for lung cancer screening (LCS) among patients diagnosed with primary lung cancer and to assess the utilization of LCS prior to diagnosis. They found that only 13.2% of patients met the 2021 USPSTF eligibility criteria, with significant disparities based on gender, race, and ethnicity, and that only 9.5% of eligible patients had undergone low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening. The study highlights barriers to effective lung cancer screening, including restrictive eligibility criteria and low screening uptake.
