Comparison of supplemental breast cancer screening outcomes for automated versus hand-held ultrasound

The authors aimed to compare the performance outcomes of automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) versus hand-held ultrasound (HHUS) in women with dense breasts as a supplemental screening method. Their analysis revealed that ABUS resulted in significantly lower rates of abnormal interpretations and short-interval follow-up recommendations, while maintaining a similar cancer detection rate compared to HHUS. The findings suggest that ABUS may be a more effective option for screening in this patient population.
