A Quality-Improvement Study Evaluating Three Postpartum Prophylactic Oxytocin Rates and Blood Loss After Vaginal Birth

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to evaluate the effects of three different prophylactic oxytocin infusion rates on blood loss following vaginal birth. Their study found that a high infusion rate significantly reduced median blood loss compared to intermediate and low rates, and also resulted in a lower need for second-line uterotonics, although rates of postpartum hemorrhage and transfusion remained unchanged.
