The Role of Placental Anastomoses in Severe Brain Injury After Fetal Demise in Monochorionic Twins: A Multicenter Retrospective Study

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to investigate the relationship between the number and diameter of placental anastomoses and the occurrence of severe brain injury in surviving monochorionic twins following a single fetal demise. Their findings indicate that larger diameters and greater numbers of both arterio-arterial and veno-venous anastomoses are associated with increased risk of severe brain injury, although no significant associations were found when focusing solely on cases of single fetal demise.
