Urinary Biomarkers and Response to Treatment in Overactive Bladder (OAB): A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to systematically review and meta-analyze the relationship between urinary biomarkers, particularly nerve growth factor (NGF), and treatment response in adults with overactive bladder (OAB). Their findings indicate that while urinary NGF levels decrease with treatment and correlate with symptom score improvements, the overall evidence on the utility of urinary biomarkers in OAB remains heterogeneous and limited. This suggests that urinary biomarkers may be beneficial for monitoring treatment response in cases where traditional symptom questionnaires are unreliable.
