Beyond Joint Hypermobility: Investigating Bladder Dysfunction in Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Listen to this summary

This study investigates the prevalence and characteristics of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in patients with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) to understand the underlying mechanisms of bladder dysfunction in this population. The authors found that while LUTS are common among hEDS patients, the issues appear to stem from pelvic floor and neurologic dysfunction rather than intrinsic bladder pathology. Their findings suggest a need for a pelvic floor-focused approach in the evaluation and management of LUTS associated with hEDS.
