Isolated Polyhydramnios: diagnosis should be made based on both elevated AFI and elevated MVP

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to determine which sonographic definitions of isolated polyhydramnios—elevated amniotic fluid index (AFI) alone, elevated maximum vertical pocket (MVP) alone, or both—are most closely associated with adverse perinatal outcomes. Their findings indicate that only pregnancies meeting both criteria (elevated AFI and MVP) showed a significant increase in adverse outcomes such as perinatal death and NICU admissions, while all forms of polyhydramnios were linked to higher rates of cesarean deliveries and adverse maternal outcomes.
