Sexual well-being before and after childbirth: a prospective longitudinal study using the Female Sexual Function Index

Listen to this summary

This study aimed to evaluate changes in female sexual function before and after childbirth and identify obstetric factors influencing postpartum sexual well-being. The findings revealed a significant decline in sexual function postpartum among sexually active women, with mode of delivery and perineal trauma affecting outcomes. Notably, higher pre-delivery arousal scores were linked to improved postpartum sexual function, emphasizing the need for more comprehensive assessment tools for postpartum sexual health.
