Peritoneal cancer risk after risk reducing salpingo-oophorectomy, impact of mutational status and STIC lesions

Listen to this summary

This study investigates the risk of peritoneal cancer (PC) following risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) in women with BRCA1/2 pathogenic variants and the impact of serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC) lesions on this risk. The authors found that while the overall incidence of PC was low, women with STIC detected during RRSO had a significantly higher 5-year risk of developing PC. The results underscore the need for early RRSO and tailored follow-up strategies for genetically at-risk women.
