Predicting concurrent endometrial carcinoma in women with endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia without preoperative suspicion of malignancy.

Listen to this summary

This retrospective cohort study of 124 women with endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN) who underwent hysterectomy asked which preoperative variables predict concurrent endometrial carcinoma when no malignancy was suspected beforehand. Type 2 diabetes, age, body mass index, and diagnostic method (with hysteroscopy-guided sampling or D&C associated with lower odds than pipelle biopsy) formed a nomogram with good apparent discrimination (AUC 0.828; optimism-corrected AUC 0.784), though 14.5% of cases had carcinoma. The authors conclude that external and prospective validation is needed before clinical use.
