Biomechanical Comparison of Patellar Fixation Techniques in Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction: A Pediatric Cadaveric Study

Listen to this summary

This study aims to evaluate the biomechanical fixation strength of different patellar fixation techniques—suture-anchor (SA) and bone-tunnel (BT)—in the context of medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction in pediatric specimens. The results indicate that BT fixation provides significantly higher ultimate failure loads compared to SA fixation, although both techniques exhibit similar stiffness. These findings suggest that BT fixation may be a more reliable option for pediatric patients due to its superior load-to-failure characteristics.
