Rethinking Prevention of Recurrent Bacterial Vaginosis: A Comparative Effectiveness Network Meta-Analysis
Listen to this summary
The authors aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of various preventive strategies for recurrent bacterial vaginosis (BV) in nonpregnant women, including partner treatment, consolidation therapy, and long-term maintenance interventions. Their network meta-analysis found that partner treatment significantly reduced BV recurrence, while consolidation therapies like probiotics and acidifying agents also showed promise, particularly in different baseline risk groups. Overall, vaginal probiotics and acidifying agents emerged as the most supported nonantibiotic options for preventing BV recurrence.
