Retrospective Evaluation of Contemporary Complication Rates and Severity After Suprapubic Tube Placement by Urology and Interventional Radiology

The authors aimed to compare the complication rates and severity of suprapubic tube (SPT) placement between urology and interventional radiology (IR) while identifying patient factors that may increase complication risk. Their retrospective analysis of 266 patients revealed comparable low perioperative complication rates for both specialties, though major complications were more frequent in the IR group. Overall, while minor complications like urinary tract infections were common, severe complications were infrequent and not significantly associated with the specialty of care or patient history.
