Prenatal Incarceration Exposure and Postpartum Contraceptive Use: Findings from the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System

The study aimed to determine the association between prenatal incarceration exposure and postpartum contraceptive use among new mothers. Analyzing data from over 111,000 respondents, the authors found that those with incarceration exposure had significantly lower odds of using any postpartum contraception and were less likely to use condoms, while showing higher odds of abstinence. The results highlight the need for integrated support systems to enhance contraceptive access for individuals impacted by incarceration.
