MRI-Negative Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome: Comparison of Hypertensive Encephalopathy With and Without Vasogenic Edema

The authors aimed to investigate whether posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) can occur without detectable changes on MRI by comparing clinical features of patients with hypertensive encephalopathy and those with PRES exhibiting vasogenic edema. Their findings suggest that most symptoms and risk factors do not significantly differ between these groups, indicating that the diagnosis of PRES in acute severe hypertension may not require MRI confirmation.
