Comparative effectiveness of hormonal therapies for preventing recurrence in endometriosis: a real-world retrospective cohort study with risk factor analysis

Listen to this summary

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of different hormonal therapies—dienogest (DNG), GnRH agonists (GnRH-a), combined oral contraceptives (COC), and levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS)—in preventing postoperative recurrence of ovarian endometriomas. The findings revealed that the GnRH-a + DNG regimen had a significantly lower 3-year recurrence rate compared to the GnRH-a + LNG-IUS group, while also indicating trends favoring DNG over COC. Additionally, the study identified independent risk factors for recurrence, including severe dysmenorrhea and previous pelvic surgeries, while older age at surgery was found to be protective.
