Two-Year Outcomes of the Proximal Hamstring Avulsion Rehabilitation Regimes: Longitudinal Versus Accelerated Protocol (PHARRLAP) Study: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Listen to this summary

The study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes, strength recovery, functional symmetry, and rates of complications and reinjuries in patients undergoing proximal hamstring repair for acute tendon avulsions, following either a conservative or accelerated rehabilitation protocol. Results indicated that both rehabilitation pathways led to significant improvements in patient-reported outcomes and strength over two years, with no major differences in functional outcomes or reinjury rates between the two groups. The accelerated rehabilitation pathway showed some subjective benefits, but the study was not sufficiently powered to draw definitive conclusions about reinjury risk.
