Tirofiban for Reduction of TEAR: A Phase 2, Randomized, Open-Label, Blinded End Point, Controlled Trial

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of prophylactic tirofiban, a glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitor, in reducing thromboembolic complications during neurointerventional therapy for unruptured intracranial aneurysms. In a phase 2 trial involving 191 patients, the study found that adjunctive tirofiban significantly decreased the median volume of new ischemic lesions without increasing the risk of hemorrhagic complications or mortality. These promising results suggest the need for further validation in larger, multicenter trials.
