Migraine and Stroke Risk in Postmenopausal Women in the Women's Health Initiative

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to investigate the association between a history of migraine and the risk of incident stroke in postmenopausal women. Their findings indicate that while there was no significant link between migraine and total stroke risk, a history of migraine was associated with an increased risk of ischemic stroke, particularly in the cardioembolic and undetermined subtypes, suggesting that migraine should be considered a risk marker for ischemic stroke in this population.
