Unveiling the associated factors of menstrual experience and its relation with health-related quality of life among the female university students: a cross-sectional study in the Balasore district of Odisha.

Listen to this summary

This cross-sectional study of 284 female university students in Balasore, Odisha, examined how menstrual patterns, ailments, and hygiene practices relate to menstrual health-related quality of life. The authors asked what factors are associated with menstrual experience dissatisfaction and poor menstrual quality of life, finding that about 36% were dissatisfied (linked to younger age and lower maternal education), roughly 72% had primary dysmenorrhea, and poor quality of life was most common among younger students, those in rented hostels, and those with heavy bleeding or multiple menstrual disorders. The authors conclude that improved peer support, awareness, and institutional sensitization are needed to address these menstrual health gaps.
