Large-scale organoid-derived cyst cultures as a drug discovery platform for polycystic kidney disease

Listen to this summary

The authors aim to establish a scalable platform using ureteric bud (UB) organoids derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) for drug discovery in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). They successfully generated cyst-forming UB organoids that mimic the disease and screened a small-molecule library, identifying compounds that reduce cyst size, thereby validating the organoid model as a promising tool for developing ADPKD therapies.
