Antibiotic-Impregnated Bone Grafts in the Masquelet Technique Reduce the Risk of Persistent Infection at Early Follow-up

The authors aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of antibiotic-impregnated composite bone grafts (AIBG) compared to standard autologous cancellous bone grafts in reducing infection recurrence and promoting bone union in patients with infected segmental bone defects treated using the induced membrane technique. Their findings suggest that AIBG significantly lowers the risk of recurrent infection and improves bone union rates, particularly in patients with persistent positive cultures at the time of grafting.
