The Influence of Multiple Doses of Intravenous Tranexamic Acid on Transfusions and Complications in the Treatment of Fragility Hip Fractures

The authors aimed to assess the impact of multiple doses of intravenous tranexamic acid (TXA) on blood transfusion requirements and complication rates in patients aged 50 and older with fragility hip fractures. The study found that TXA significantly reduced the need for blood transfusions compared to no TXA, with no increase in complications, although the additional benefit of multiple doses over a single dose was minimal. Overall, TXA use was associated with lower transfusion rates without increasing the risk of venous thromboembolism, surgical site infections, or mortality.
