Oral anticoagulants reduce venous thromboembolism rates in patients on 1st-line treatment for ovarian Cancer- A quality improvement project

This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a quality improvement intervention in reducing venous thromboembolism (VTE) rates among ovarian cancer patients receiving first-line chemotherapy. The implementation of a program that included staff education and integrated anticoagulant prescriptions resulted in a significant decrease in VTE rates from 16.9% to 12.5%, without an increase in bleeding complications. The findings suggest that oral anticoagulants can effectively lower VTE risk in this patient population, highlighting the need for improved risk stratification in future studies.
