Incidence and Predictors of Extracranial Bleeding on Oral Anticoagulants for Stroke Prevention in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation: A COMBINE-AF Analysis
Listen to this summary
The authors aimed to characterize the incidence and predictors of extracranial bleeding in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) receiving oral anticoagulants (OACs) and to quantify the population attributable fraction of identified risk factors. They found that 26% of patients experienced clinically relevant extracranial bleeding, with gastrointestinal bleeds being the most common site, and identified consistent risk factors across bleeding severity categories. Their models explained approximately two-thirds of the population attributable risk, indicating that additional factors may also influence bleeding risk.
