Unpacking Barriers and Facilitators to Research Leadership for Black Primary Care Researchers

The authors investigate the underrepresentation of Black researchers in UK primary care research, aiming to identify barriers and facilitators affecting their career progression and retention. Through interviews with Black researchers and senior academic leaders, they uncover systemic inequities and racism as significant obstacles, while highlighting the importance of mentorship, tailored support, and visibility of Black role models as key facilitators for improvement. The study concludes with recommendations to enhance diversity and inclusivity within the primary care research workforce.
