Long-term incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma after hepatitis B surface antigen seroclearance

The authors aimed to assess the long-term incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) who achieved hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) seroclearance, compared to the general population. Their findings indicate that individuals who clear HBsAg, particularly younger men and women without cirrhosis, exhibit a very low risk of developing HCC, suggesting that routine surveillance may not be necessary for these groups.
