E-cigarette use (vaping) and cigarette smoking are associated with reduced markers of ovarian reserve: a cross-sectional study of 16,087 women

Listen to this summary

This study aimed to explore the relationship between e-cigarette use and cigarette smoking with hormonal markers of ovarian reserve, specifically serum AMH and FSH, in a large cohort of reproductively healthy women aged 18-45. The findings revealed that current vaping was associated with a 5.6% reduction in AMH, while current cigarette smoking was linked to a 9.4% decrease in AMH and an increase in FSH, suggesting potential negative impacts on ovarian reserve related to both behaviors. These results highlight the need for further research on the reproductive health implications of e-cigarette use among women of reproductive age.
