Suicidality Following Sexual Abuse Among Children Aged 10 to 17 Years

Listen to this summary

This study aims to describe the prevalence of suicidality among youth aged 10 to 17 years evaluated for sexual abuse and to examine the relationship between suicidality and the nature of the perpetrator's relationship to the victim. The findings indicate that 11.1% of the youth reported suicidality within 90 days of assessment, with a higher rate of suicide attempts among those abused by nonrelatives compared to relatives. The authors emphasize the importance of timely suicidality screening and trauma-informed mental health care for at-risk youth following sexual abuse.
