Risk, prevalence and survival outcomes of ovarian cancer in women with endometriosis: the ENDOCANCER systematic review and meta-analysis

Listen to this summary

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to clarify the relationship between endometriosis and the risk of developing epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), as well as to assess survival outcomes in affected women. The findings indicate that while endometriosis significantly increases the relative risk of ovarian cancer, the absolute risk remains low, and patients with endometriosis-associated ovarian cancer (EAOC) tend to have better survival rates and distinct clinicopathologic features compared to those with non-EAOC. The authors advocate for personalized risk counseling and the development of phenotype-based stratification methods.
